Abstract: Guidance for an objective evaluation of flow batteries by a potential user for any stationary application is provided in this document. IEEE Std 1679-2020, IEEE Recommended Practice for the Characterization and Evaluation of Emerging Energy Storage Technologies in Stationary Applications is to be used in conjunction with this document.
Sizing, installation, maintenance, and testing techniques are not covered except insofar as they may influence the evaluation of a flow battery for its intended application. Scope: This document provides guidance for an objective evaluation of flow batteries by a potential user for any stationary application.
Working conditions induced performance of the large-scale stack are discussed. Vanadium redox flow battery (VRFB) energy storage systems have the advantages of flexible location, ensured safety, long durability, independent power and capacity configuration, etc., which make them the promising contestants for power systems applications.
