The Wellington Stage 1 Battery Energy Storage System (or BESS) will have a capacity of 300 megawatts and store 600 megawatt-hours of energy and is expected to start working in 2026.
The Wellington Stage 1 BESS will be delivered by energy storage and software company Fluence, using its advanced Gridstack grid-scale energy storage product.
The Bulabul Battery is adjacent to and will connect to the Transgrid Wellington substation. The Transgrid Wellington substation is a key point on Transgrid’s 330kV transmission network, connecting renewable energy resources with electricity consumers across NSW.
